Keble Preparatory School was established as a day preparatory school for boys aged 4-13.
1930
Relocation to ‘The Elms’ in Wades Hill
Initially, the school opened its doors in St John’s Hall on Hoppers Road with just six pupils, comprising both boys and girls. By 1930, the school had relocated to ‘The Elms’ in Wades Hill, accommodating 10 boys. The founding Headmistress, Miss Harper, led the school through its early years.
1931
The joining of Miss Swinburne
The student body grew to 34 boys. The school's steady growth necessitated the construction of a new building in 1935, which housed 100 boys. However, the onset of World War II brought significant changes.
1939
Keble Prep requisitioned to serve as a First Aid Post
During this period, Miss Swinburne joined the Women’s Auxiliary Air Force (WAAF). Most students were evacuated and the remaining boys were hosted by Palmers Green High School. The school building was used as a First Aid Post.
1944
Keble Preparatory School resumes operations
By 1945, the entire school building had been de-requisitioned, allowing the school to function fully once again. A notable extension was added to the building in 1949, reflecting the school’s continued expansion.
Miss Swinburne took on the role of joint Head with Miss Harper in 1948. Following Miss Harper’s retirement in the same year, Miss Swinburne became the sole Headmistress, under whose leadership the school flourished. By 1950, pupil numbers had surged to 196.
